Imagine a world...
...full of creative, engaged, respectful people, eager to work with others, yet not afraid of speaking their minds. That vision drives us, and the most effective way of developing those traits is in musical ensembles.
That’s what we do. Like team sports, the music team is the focus, except where everyone wins, and in the process discover their individual voice. For anyone that has had at least some musical training, whether they’re 8 or 80, our ensemble programs give purpose to those music lessons!
Open to all...
Thousands of Arbor area kids have benefited from the unique musical learning that the School provides — many of whom might not have otherwise been able to afford such a learning experience. 25 per cent of our students receive financial assistance to attend CMSa2.
We’re so passionate about our vision...
...that growth of our scholarship programs is built right into our strategic plan. Students at risk, and people of limited means, are just as deserving as anyone, and have just as much potential, so they are able to participate at reduced rates, or free. Because you never know where you might find the next Joshua Bell, Frank Lloyd Wright, or Neil deGrasse Tyson.
What Kind of Music do we teach and play?
Currently we are focusing on small group ensemble music and private instruction. Most of our music is classical and jazz today… but our learning models encourage our students to stretch those boundaries. The School is flexible in its approach to style, genre and group size… anything is possible!
What’s Happening Right Now?
- Classical Studies – Chamber Music Programs in strings, woodwinds and brass, along with a Senior Strings Orchestra
- Jazz Studies – Youth and Adult Jazz Combos
- Composition – Creative Composers
- Private Instruction – for youths and adults. The School does not offer this instruction directly, but we have a network of instructors to whom we refer our students.
- Public Performances – in and around town at private and public venues
Where are you holding School?
Our flexible school model allows us to collaborate with area venues like Clague Middle School, Ann Arbor Academy, Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Rudolf Steiner School for instruction, rehearsals and performances. We can add to this list as our enrollment grows.
