PhoenixPhest Chamber Music and Jazz Festival

In everyday life and even more during the ongoing pandemic, we all need to feed our passion and creativity.  At the Phest, students will learn new technological tools so they can continue nourishing their creativity, their love of music, and enjoy camaraderie with their fellow musicians, even though they cannot meet in person.

The curriculum is equally structured to care for a student’s wellness as it is to nourish their musical creativity. Compassion and mindfulness are essential to building a supportive community. At PhoenixPhest we nourish the whole musician in each of us.

The virtual Phest curriculum for chamber music and jazz ensembles will provide a transformative week of music study and exploration, introducing new technologies for creating music in an online studio, while encouraging students to build observational and listening skills, empathy and patience for their peers, and engage in self-reflection for personal growth and professional success.

For more information, pricing and registration, please refer to the PhoenixPhest! page on the CMSA2 website!

A New Collaboration For CMSA2

6/1/2020

We are happy to announce that the Education for Happiness will be partnering with Community Music School of Ann Arbor to create a new online PhoenixPhest utilizing accessible digital platforms. The program will be dedicated to exploring the depths of online learning and creating.

The advantages of technology will have a significant effect on how we interact remotely and in person, especially during this pandemic. We believe that we should embrace this new online model not as a substitute but as a different way to probe the depths of being an artist and connecting with other musicians. In that spirit, our organizations are offering a virtual PhoenixPhest chamber music festival, Jazz program and Suzuki institute.

COMPASSION. CONNECTION. UNDERSTANDING. HAPPINESS.

The Community Music School of Ann Arbor is so proud of our partnership in PhoenixPhest!. We're also proud of The Phoenix Ensemble's big decision to change its name, to Education for Happiness.

Here's How Gabe explains it:

"I’d like to share some observations during my 20 years of running an education-focused nonprofit.

It continues to be an honor to serve the community and to find ways to add value to people’s daily lives through the arts. After years of running our signature event, PhoenixPhest! Chamber Music Festival in Ann Arbor, Michigan, I have come to understand music education in new ways. What is typically referred to in music education as peripheral concepts have been an integral part of the curriculum and environment at PhoenixPhest. This has led to the realization that compassion and connection are not peripheral skills, but central ones in the arts. With the onset of Covid-19, this is more apparent than ever. It is through not just excellence, but connection and understanding that we find true and lasting happiness.

With that in mind, we’d like to announce…

A NAME CHANGE

Our board has voted to change our organization’s name to Education for Happiness. Our mission will remain largely the same with a focus on learning and the arts from the perspective of mental health and connection with others. We will continue to be a developmentally focused resource for all ages." ~ Gabe Bolkosky"
