Currently based in Ann Arbor, violinist Nathaniel Cornell is an active musician and educator throughout much of eastern Michigan. An avid orchestral musician, Nathaniel is a member of the Ann Arbor, Lansing, and Midland Symphony Orchestras. He has also previously performed with the Firelands, Jackson, and Toledo Symphony Orchestras, and has held the position of concertmaster at the National Orchestral Institute and at Opera in the Ozarks.
A passionate educator, Nathaniel has been coaching chamber music and teaching privately since 2014. He recently joined the faculty at the Flint School of Performing Arts as a violin coach/mentor for the Flint Youth Orchestras and also currently maintains a private violin studio in Ann Arbor.
Equally enthusiastic about chamber music, Nathaniel has had the privilege of performing side-by-side in concert with members of the Argus, Calidore, and Jupiter String Quartets over the course of his violin studies.
Born and raised in Naples, Florida, Nathaniel first studied violin with Lisa Zeller and Gregg Anderson of the Naples Philharmonic. Nathaniel then went on to complete his Bachelor's Degree in Violin Performance at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with Marilyn McDonald, and his Master's Degree at the University of Michigan with Aaron Berofsky.
As a passionate devotee of historically informed early music, Nathaniel is an active performer on the baroque violin. He enjoys giving solo and chamber recitals of Baroque and Renaissance music and has collaborated with various baroque ensembles in the Ann Arbor/Detroit area. He frequently performs with the Baroque Chamber Orchestra at the University of Michigan.
