Prelude
In Prelude, musicians will be introduced to a range of historical performance practices. They will also have the opportunity to learn how to play with Baroque bows and to explore Viols, or violas da gamba, a family of instruments with hundreds of years of wonderful repertory. Prelude will regularly collaborate with The Brandenburg Project.
MORE ABOUT VIOL: Viols, or violas da gamba, are a family of instruments, different in lineage from the violin family. Members of Prelude will have trebles, a tenor, and basses available to explore. Many thanks to the Viola da Gamba Society of America for the loan!
Discover the viol (also called viola da gamba) family, and explore the language of earlier music. With this return to the roots of Western music, string players have a chance to deepen our understanding of sound, pulse, and breath, while acquiring a fascinating new repertory.
